What do you think of the current phenomenon of over-packaging?

A survey conducted by the China Youth Daily Social Survey Center in 2012 showed that among the 4306 people interviewed, 97.5% of the respondents thought that the current phenomenon of excessive packaging of goods in China was serious, of which 76% thought it was very serious. Some goods deliberately increase the number of layers of packaging, in the inner packaging and outer packaging between the increase in packaging, the appearance of beautiful, not the name; some goods packaging volume is too large, the actual product is very small, the noise of the main; there are goods using too thick padding material, the protection function is excessive, also excessive packaging.

At present, the main manifestations of excessive packaging in the market are

01 The gap is too large

In this regard, the standard in accordance with the different net contents of food and cosmetics, respectively, to give the required clearance rate.

02 Too many layers of packaging

The new standard makes it clear that the number of layers of packaging for food and processed products should not exceed three, and for other commodities, four. However, if it is in direct contact with the contents, the layer of material belonging to the inherent properties of the product, such as the dumpling leaves of dumplings, bamboo tubes, hollow capsules, etc., may not be counted.

The new standard specifies that production organisations should take measures to control the cost of all packaging other than that which comes into direct contact with the contents to no more than 20% of the sales price of the product. If a mooncake with 3 layers of packaging is sold for RMB 10, then the cost of the second and third layers of packaging, in addition to the innermost layer of packaging directly wrapped around the mooncake, must not exceed 20% of the selling price of RMB 10 - RMB 2.

Third, the hazards of excessive packaging

01 Waste of a lot of resources

Packaging industry raw materials such as paper, rubber, glass, steel, plastic, etc., the use of virgin materials, from wood, oil, steel, etc., are China's scarce resources. If used for excessive packaging in large quantities and not recycled accordingly, it will result in a great waste.

02 Pollution of the environment Abandoning packaging waste in large quantities can add to the pollution of the environment. Annual emissions of packaging waste in China already account for 1/3 of municipal solid waste by weight and 1/2 by volume, and emissions are increasing at an alarming rate of 10% per year. The cost of excessive packaging is considerable, and these excessive packaging items, which consume a lot of resources, are nothing more than decoration and household waste.

03 Damage to the interests of society ① Infringes on the interests of consumers. After paying the necessary value for the goods, the consumer is imposed an additional large amount of packaging costs. ②It hurts the interests of companies. Fierce unfair competition has caused excessive packaging to proliferate in the market. In their pursuit of higher profits, companies use exaggerated packaging and decorative features to obtain more value from consumers. In the short term, corporate profits may rise significantly, but in the long term it is not conducive to sustainable corporate development. ③ Harmful to the interests of society. The trend of excessive packaging creates a social trend of luxury and pomp, which is not conducive to building a frugal society.
