The origins and development of carton packaging(1)

Carton packaging is an old and modern topic, and one that has been studied and explored from the beginning to the end. From the ancient primitive society, the agrarian era, to the modern society with very developed scientific skills, packaging follows the evolution of human beings, the presentation of products, the development of production and the advancement of scientific skills and gradually develops, and constantly attacks a major breakthrough. From a general point of view, packaging has roughly gone through three stages of development: primitive packaging, traditional packaging and modern packaging.

A, the original packaging

The history of human use of packaging can be traced back to the ancient times. As early as about 10,000 years ago in the late primitive society, following the progress of production skills, production has been developed, there are remaining items to be stored and exchanged, so the beginning of the original packaging. In the beginning, people tied up hunting materials with kudzu vines and wrapped items with plant leaves, shells, animal skins, etc. This was the embryo of the development of primitive packaging. In the future, following the progress of labour skills, people made the most primitive baskets and baskets with plant fibres, and made clay pots, clay bowls and clay pots with fire calcined stones and clay, which were used to hold and preserve food, drinks and other items, making the packaging convenient for transportation, storage and safekeeping functions to be perfected at the beginning. This is the ancient packaging, i.e. the original packaging.

B, the traditional packaging

About 5000 years BC, mankind began to enter the bronze age. 4000 years ago in China's Xia Dynasty, our people have been able to exercise bronze, the Shang and Zhou period bronze exercise skills to further develop. During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States period, people mastered the skills of cast iron and steel making and lacquer making and painting, and a large number of iron containers and lacquered wooden containers were presented. In ancient Egypt, glass containers were blown in 3000 BC. Thus, there is a thousand-year history of processing various packaging containers with ceramics, glass, wood and metal, and many of these skills have been used until now through continuous improvement.

As early as the Han Dynasty, in 105 BC Cai Lun developed the art of papermaking. In 61 AD, China's papermaking was introduced to Japan via Goryeo; in the 13th century, it was introduced to Europe, and Germany was the first country to build a large paper mill; in the mid-11th century, China's Bi Sheng developed the art of movable type printing; in the 15th century, Europe began to present movable type printing, packaging printing and packaging decoration industry began to develop; in the 16th century, Europe's ceramic industry began to develop; the United States built a glass factory and began to produce a variety of glass containers.
